Auditory sense is one of the five most important human senses that plays an important role in the process of learning and cognitive development. Sometimes people suffer from defects in this sense due to structural or functional defects, and the younger the person is at the time of the occurrence of this lesion, the more visible the damage is. In fact, each of our senses has different thresholds of sensory stimuli, and the threshold refers to the point at which a person responds to sensory information. The thresholds of each sense can be low (high sensitivity) or high (low sensitivity). People with a high threshold tend to be hypersensitive or under-responsive due to their low sensitivity, and people with a low threshold tend to be hypersensitive or over-responsive due to their high sensitivity. Therefore, if the sensation has a high threshold, more intense stimulus is needed for the person to respond and vice versa. For example, if a child with autism spectrum thresholds are high, he or she usually does not pay attention to low-pitched sounds and does not seem to hear them. And this is usually why children with autism spectrum disorder constantly cover their ears; Because even the smallest sounds around him are probably annoying to him.

Symptoms that may be present in children with autism spectrum disorder may indicate sensory threshold disorders:

Responds negatively to loud, unexpected noises (for example, from the sound of a vacuum cleaner, barber, hair dryer, crying, or hiding).
He covers his ear with his hands against the sound.
If there is a lot of noise around it, it will be distracted or it will malfunction.
Cannot work with background sound (for example, fan, refrigerator).
He does not seem to hear what you are saying.
He does not respond when you call his name, but you know the baby is hearing healthy.
Enjoys strange sounds (seeks to make noise for its own sake).
Avoid noisy environments.

Solutions for parents of children with high hearing threshold

While bathing: Provide live music for the background / Sing during the bath.

When eating: Provide live music for the background.
While playing: Prepare sound-producing toys / Turn on the TV in the background.
When you wake up: Turn on the radio / speak in a different volume and volume.
When walking: Talk to the child, make a sound together / point to the sounds you hear.

Solutions for parents of children with low hearing threshold

While bathing: Close the bathroom door / Prepare the bath before the baby comes to the bathroom.
Establish special etiquette, so do not talk while dressing.
When eating: Turn on the fan to make a uniform sound (but do not blow on the baby).
Playing at the same time: Provide a place in a quiet environment for the child to play and relax.
Bedtime: Turn off the TV and radio, close the windows.
When walking: Limit unstructured and unplanned times
